Before explaining the FUE method, which is the most common and most used method in the world and accepted as the latest hair transplantation technique, it would be more correct to explain what "Follicular Unit" is. Follicular Unit (Graft): It is a natural hair structure where more than one hair follicle is together. A follicular unit can contain a single hair follicle as well as multiple hair follicles as double, triple, quadruple…. The hair density of a person is determined in this way and hair transplantation operation can be planned. The area where the follicular unit (grafts) is most concentrated in the middle part of the back area between the two ears.
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) technique is preferred by experts and patients because it is a "minimally invasive" method in hair transplantation. In this method, follicular units (grafts) are taken and transplanted one by one.
So, how is hair transplantation performed with the FUE method?
The hair in the area where the follicular units to be transplanted into the hairless area will be taken is shaved to remain very short (0 or 1 mm).
The grafts are taken from the nape area (Donor area) between the two ears with surgical devices that can perform millimetric operations called Micro Motors. The grafts taken are placed in a container with a special solution in order to be protected.
In line with the opinion of our experts and the request of our patient, the new frontal hairline and the area to be transplanted are determined. Channels where grafts will be transplanted are opened in the designated area for hair transplantation.
The number of grafts taken and the number of channels to be opened must be the same. The correct determination of the angle and direction of the channels to be opened is of great importance in terms of providing a natural appearance. Therefore, the experience and meticulousness of the expert who performs the channel opening process, which is the most important stage of the operation, is very important. The last stage of the operation is the placement of the grafts in the opened channels, that is, the Transplantation process.
A hair transplant operation performed with the FUE method takes an average of 8-10 hours. The number of grafts to be transplanted within this period varies between 1000-7000 (maximum grafts), that is, 2500-17500 hair strands. In line with the need for graft to close the opening of the person, the amount of graft in the donor area and his request, one operation may be sufficient, or two or three operations can be performed.
Hair follicles are removed from the donor area by making a strip incision. This area is covered with stitches. Afterwards, the hair follicles are separated from these strands under the microscope and transplanted one by one into the channels opened in the balding area. The FUT method has been replaced by the FUE method with the effect of the recently developing technology.
Based on FUE and FUT methods, there are many hair transplant operation techniques.
Micro Motor FUE are operations where grafts are harvested with the help of a Micro Motor.
Manual FUE is a hair transplant operation where grafts are harvested with Manual Punch.
Robotic FUE are hair transplant operations in which graft harvesting is done by a robot.
Sapphire FUE are operations in which the channel opening process is performed with Sapphire tips after the grafts are removed by any of the micromotor, manual or robotic methods.
DHI (Direct Hair Implementation) is the planting of grafts taken on the basis of FUE using CHOI Implanter Pens (Needles).
Percutaneous Hair Transplantation is a hair transplant operation in which channels are opened roundly with percutaneous needles.
Many more can be added to these technically presented innovations. For example, Unshaved Hair Transplantation, Painless Hair Transplantation, Needle-Free Hair Transplantation are offered technically. All of these methods are separated from each other in small details, and they are essentially based on the FUE method.
